BMW patents an electric turbocharger
The end of turbo lag?

After months of speculation, BMW has reportedly patented an electronic turbocharger.
The specifics are somewhat technical, but the system uses an electric motor and a series of clutches to minimize turbo lag. When the driver steps on the accelerator, the electric motor spools up the turbo to optimize performance. Once the electric motor is no longer needed, it acts like an alternator to recharge its battery. More interestingly, when this occurs, the motor prevents the turbo from spinning too fast which eliminates the need for a traditional wastegate.
It remains unclear when BMW will introduce the technology, but rumors have suggested an electric turbo was under consideration for the next-generation M3.

BMW Celebra 40 anos da Divisão M com uma Edição Especial do M3 em Prateado Frozen

A brand new M3 is just around the cornerand in the lead up to its arrival BMW is in run out mode with the last of its current generation cars. To help keep them moving, the automaker has announced a special run ofM3 Competition Edition coupes for the North American market that celebrates the 40 years since the founding of BMW M in 1972.

 A total of 40 examples will be offered, all finished in Frozen Silver and featuring black hood intakes, various dark chrome exterior trim pieces, black 19-inch M3 GTS wheels, and a host of interior upgrades.

 These include Novillo leather trim in black, but with palladium silver accents, an Alcantara-covered multi-function M steering wheel, door sill finishers featuring an M3 checkered flag logo, and a handbrake lever with the M Power logo embroidered. As a final touch, genuine carbon fiber trims the dash and center console.

 No drivetrain mods have been applied so output from the car’s 4.0-liter V-8 resides at 414 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. BMW’s seven-speed M DCT dual clutch transmission has also been applied, promising 0-60 mph acceleration of 4.5 seconds.

 Unlike previous M3 Edition models, which typically sold out in minutes after launch, one each of the 40 2012 BMW M3 Competition Edition [COLOR=blue !important]cars </span>in</span>[/COLOR] Frozen Silver has been allocated to the first 40 authorized BMW centers to become M Certified Centers. So if you’re friendly with your dealer better hurry up and given them a call if you’re interested.

Renderings: Future BMW X1 and BMW X2
German magazine Autobild jumps in early on the renderings bandwagon and give us their interpretation of the future BMW X1 due out in 2015.
But this is not all, same magazine takes this game a step forward and for the first time, mentions a new BMW model: the X2.
To backup their statements, Autobild even provides the internal code names for the two vehicles: F48 for X1 and F47 for X2.

The first generation BMW X1 launched in 2008 and based on the BMW design cycle, the next generation will come 7 years later. Most likely at this stage the final design has yet to be chosen and designing teams within the company are competing for the honor to bring their vision onto the road. Once the board approves the X1 design, the car will move from a clay model to an actual concept.

The renderings are purely speculative at this point and are based on recently unveiled models. The photoshoped X1 showcases fluid lines, but with a more aggressive stance. At the front, the headlights and kidney gril are inspired by the new 1 Series Hatchback, with larger shapes than usual.
At the back, the second generation X1 features a coupe-like slope that gives the car a sportier look.
Again, take these renderings with a grain of salt.

Next, the BMW X2. Same publication says a launch date is scheduled for 2016. BMW insiders take this a step further and say that Munich-based automaker sees X2 as a mix between the “X” and “Z” models, somewhat similar to the design ideas shown in the original XCoupe Concept.
Our own sources have yet to confirm the greenlight on the X2 and say the company is currently heavily focusing on the upcoming BMW X4 built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

BMW revela planos «verdes» para Tóquio

Por ocasião da 42ª edição do Salão Automóvel de Tóquio, que começa em 30 de Novembro para a imprensa e a 03 de Dezembro para o público em geral, a BMW mostra em público pela primeira vez o modelo ActiveHybrid 5.

Esta versão híbrida do novo Série 5 (na foto) é alimentada por uma mistura entre o motor de 3.0 litros do 535i com um motor eléctrico (com baterias de iões de lítio) e uma caixa automática de oito velocidades. A propulsão combinada produzida é de 340 cv. Puramente em modo eléctrico de condução até consegue chegar aos 60 km/h. O «híbrido activo» 5 acelera dos zero aos 100 km/h em 5,9 segundos. O seu consumo de combustível é, dependendo do tamanho dos pneus, 6,4 a 7,0 litros por 100 quilómetros. Isto corresponde a emissões de CO2 de 149-163 gramas por quilómetro.

Outra das estreias substanciais em Tóquio para o emblema alemão é a nova geração de motores de quatro cilindros a gasolina com tecnologia TwinPower Turbo, que serão vistos acção, não só sob o capô do novo BMW Série 1, mas também do BMW X1 xDrive20i.

Pela primeira vez, a BMW decidiu também trazer um Diesel de seis cilindros com a sua recentemente criada tecnologia BluePerformance, aplicada no X5 xDrive35d. Além de um filtro de partículas Diesel e conversor catalítico de oxidação, o seu pacote de tratamento de exaustão também possui um sistema AdBlue com injecção de ureia para reduzir os níveis de NOx nos gases de escape do carro.

Para não abrir um tópico só com isto, e por crer que não há melhor lugar para colocar esta questão:
O que acham do BMW 530d (modelo 1999, sedan). Gostava de saber de consumos, avarias crónicas, custos de manutenção frequentes, resistência e potência do motor... essas coisas todas que importam a um possível comprador.

Do motor, é um 6 cil. em linha com 184 Cv e com muito pulmão. Consumos, 8-9L numa condução mista sem grandes aventuras. É um motor fiável sem problemas de maior conhecidos.
Quanto ao E39 em si, depende muito do estado que apanhares mas são carros com uma excelente construção e qualidade de materiais, mas a grande maioria dos que andam por aí já têm + de 200k e como sabemos não há milagres.
O ideal é um dos últimos (2002) e de preferência a um particular que o tenha cuidado.
