Press Release

In March 2008, Porsche celebrated a sensational overall victory with the RS Spyder sports prototype at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Following tradition, the name of the overall winner was added to the front of the pit structure at the Sebring International Raceway before this year’s race. With a total of 18 overall wins and 65 class victories, Porsche is the most successful manufacturer at the long distance classic in Florida. Several days before the season-opener of the American Le Mans Series on 21st March, the first and the last overall-winning Porsche as well as the two most successful models to secure wins at Sebring come together in an unprecedented group picture: The 718 RS 60, the RS Spyder as well as the 935 and 962 models.

The first overall win for Porsche at the Sebring 12 hour race came in 1960 with Hans Herrmann (D) and Olivier Gendebien (B) at the wheel of a tiny 160hp 718 RS 60 featuring a 1.6-litre engine. The compact and lightweight car beat many considerably more powerful rivals and earned itself the nickname “Giant Killer”.

Between the years 1978 and 1984, the Porsche 935 was in a class of its own in Sebring. Seven times in a row, the 590 hp sports car with its 2.85-litre six-cylinder turbo engine dominated all its competitors. The victorious vehicle of 1980 was piloted by Dick Barbour (USA) and John Fitzpatrick (GB).

In 1985, the Porsche 962 continued the 935’s success streak with pilots A.J. Foyt (USA) and Bob Wollek (F). In the years 1986, 1987 and 1988, the 680 hp sports prototype with the 2.85-litre six-cylinder turbo engine also crossed the finish line first in Sebring.

Twenty years after the last overall win for Porsche in 1988 of Klaus Ludwig (D) and Hans-Joachim Stuck (D) with a 962, Timo Bernhard (D), Romain Dumas (F) and Emmanuel Collard (F) triumphed with the RS Spyder. Like so often in the racing history of Porsche, here it was again a case of David defeating Goliath. Despite having 200hp less, the 478 hp 3.4-litre V8 engine contesting the LMP2 class beat all other cars in the faster LMP1 category. The keys to this success were the best reliability, spending the shortest time in the pits, and the best fuel consumption of all sports prototypes. Victory at the season-opener in Sebring laid the foundation for a successful title defence in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

This coming weekend at the start of the 2009 ALMS season, a total of five Porsche GT3 RSR line up on the grid in the GT2 class. In this category as well, Porsche not only won the 12 hour race in 2008 but went on to claim the championship.

Porsche Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 Revealed - Worldcarfans

Porsche is introducing another model to the Cayenne range of SUVs. The Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 features a list of added styling and performance pieces. Powering the vehicle is a 4.8-litre V8 engine which is mated to a 6-speed Tiptronic S gearbox. The engine makes a sweet 405bhp (302kW). This will accelerate the car from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and give it a top end of 156mph (251km/h).

Exclusivity does not end with numbers however - Porsche says only 1,000 units will be sold throughout the world. Examples will come fitted with bi-xenon headlights, exterior colour-coordinated 21-inch alloy wheels, dark privacy glazing to the rear of the B-pillar, an extended roof spoiler with a double wing profile and stripes on the bonnet.

Interior features are headrests embossed with the Porsche logo, electrically-adjustable sports seats with side lumber support, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and some bits which are finished in Alcantara. A 14 speaker Bose sound system with 410W helps to make the interior a more pleasant place. Porsche even throws in a Porsche Design Chronograph watch plus a travel bag set.

Interested people in the UK and Ireland can buy their special edition GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 for £64,753. Germany will launch at the end of May at €94,344 including VAT while greater Europe will have to pay €79,100 for the car including the chronograph watch and the case set.

Ainda Não percebi aquela grelha que se pode adquirir como extra para colocar atrás dos bancos no Cayman.

Nas fotos da revista AF vê-se bem e dá ar de "comercial". Será que tambem se pode deduzir o IVA???

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 Posts an unofficial 7m 40s Time on Nurburgring

According to Andreas Preuninger, Porsche's Project Manager High Performance Cars, Porsche's latest GT3 is a formidable track assassin capable of running a 7 min/40 sec lap at Germany's famed Nurburgring Nordschleife.

It's important to stress that this is an unofficial time obtained by ace test driver Walter Rohrl during a recent open testing session -- meaning vehicles from other manufacturers were sharing the track. Preuninger mentioned that "Had Rohrl really been going for it, with a knife between his teeth" you could expect the times to drop by as much as two seconds. We also heard a report that a fully sport-optioned 911 S recently ran the 'Ring in 7 min/56 sec.

Preuninger also noted that Rohrl managed a 7:45 lap time under the same conditions with a borrowed Ferrari 430 Scuderia. And he was quick to reassert that according to Porsche, the Nissan GT-R still does no better than the 7 min/54 sec they managed last year with a U.S.-spec model -- and not the 7min/29.03 sec mark Nissan claims.

Nissan just recently went back to the 'Ring with the mildly-updated 2010 GT-R and says it has bested last year's disputed time with an even better 7min/27.56 sec run. It is also worth noting that Preuninger did not mention the ZR1's 7 min/26.4 sec 'Ring time in this conversation, though he did praise the latest Vette as a "cool car" that "serves a different purpose" than his GT3.

Is Porsche fanning the flames of the long simmering 'Ring wars or simply setting expectations for its latest sports car? Only time and independently triggered stopwatches will tell...
