First impression:
If you love the looks, go for it. If not, save the money and buy the hatch.

Whether this coupe is going to amuse or infuriate depends on where you live.

A Tough Sell
But none of these things explains why the 2012 Mini Coupe disappoints. It's not about what it does, right or wrong. It's about what it does not do, namely provide you with a single serious reason to choose one over the standard hatchback. For all Mini's posturing about it being a sports car and however much Nomex its boss chooses to wear, the Coupe offers no more real-world performance over the standard hatchback, nor is it notably better to drive.

Then there's the fact that the hatch is cheaper and more practical. You can turn the hatch into a two-seater with more than double the trunk capacity of the Coupe by simply folding the rear seats. And you can get four people in one should the need arise. Not going to happen with the Coupe.

Even so, don't escape with the idea that Mini has produced a bad car, as it's still fast, fun and well finished. But Mini has missed a trick with it. If it had paid even half as much attention to the way the Coupe drives as it has to the way it looks, its claim to have built the brand's first proper sports car could have been credible.

It wouldn't have taken a complete reengineering, just some detail tuning: a little more power that the chassis could take with ease, a thoughtful retune of the suspension, a shorter final drive — that sort of thing. Then it could have been as good, or even better to drive than it looks. As it stands, however, there is one reason only to choose it over a Mini hatchback, and it has nothing to do with driving.

Verdict

verdict_7_10.gif
The Mini Coupé JCW has instantly entertaining dynamic appeal and it will delight a great many. In its element, this Coupé is a lively, agile, fast and super-responsive driver’s car with a disarming, scruff-of-the-neck sort of character.
But on typical UK roads, its dynamic qualities just don’t surface often enough, endure long enough, or shine bright enough to eclipse its failings in other areas. Considering how much car you get for your cash, the JCW Coupé is not all that expensive. But it’s also noisy, has limited practicality and suffers the kind of rolling refinement that makes you wince over really bad roads.
We had hoped for a more three-dimensional, less contrived dynamic performance from Mini’s new sporting king. However, for all its vivacity, this car imposes serious and regrettable compromises that just don’t feature in the best £20k coupés.

O Mini com carroceria tradicional, a clubman, o cabrio .... fazem sentido nestas declinações (para mim , claro).

O "atarracado" coupé e o "gordo" contriman 5 portas , já estão a mais .... claro que gostos ......

RevoZport MINI Coupe Targa Raze revealed

Has 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS)

RevoZport has announced plans to offer a Targa Raze package for the MINI Coupeand Roadster.
Created in-house, the car features a carbon / Kevlar body kit with new bumpers, revised side skirts and a ventilated hood. There's also a carbon fiber roof and a prominent rear spoiler. The styling package widens the car by 15mm and reduces its weight by 30 kg (66 lbs).

For added performance, the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine has been equipped with new camshafts, a larger intercooler, a revised ECU and a titanium exhaust system. Thanks to these modifications, it produces 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) - an increase of 69 hp (51 kW / 70 PS).
