We spent two days this week with our 124 at the track. It was set up with FM springs, FM sway bars, ND Bilstein shocks (we only had one set of Konis) and a four wheel FM Little Big Brake Kit. Wheels were 17x8 6ULs with 235 S.Drives on them. We also had an ND Miata with the exact same setup, but with Konis instead of Bilsteins. Even the tires and alignment were the same.
In the Fiat, you can feel the extra weight in the nose relative to the Miata. We had to run a different sway bar setup to get it to turn - stiff rear, soft front. That's exactly what Fiat did when tuning the chassis. The softer power delivery exaggerated the issue, making it more difficult to drive the car out of corners than the Miata unless you anticipated the need for full boost. Otherwise, it was a good track companion. No cooling problems, the car just ran and ran with a series of different drivers. You could see a difference in the quality of the damping between the two cars, but our drivers could tell the difference between that and the cornering behavior.
Interestingly, the FM brake kit on the car seemed to generate more braking power in the Fiat than on the ND. The ND had seen a lot more use, so we're going to investigate the pads to make sure they're up to snuff. It's possible we had a different compound in them.
At this level of tune on our tight little track, yes. The ND is a sharper tool that is more adjustable on the throttle. The biggest problem the 124 has is the throttle response. That should be fixable with a combination of hardware and software. The different sway bar setup isn't that big a deal.
I'm very curious about the brakes, though.

We managed to crack the six-second barrier at the test track, recording a 5.9-second sprint to 60 mph and 16.2 seconds to 100. Even the turbocharged second-generation Mazdaspeed Miata can’t hang with this thing
No place for displacement?!
