Fonte: CarscoopThe world premiere of the new Aston Martin V12 Zagato, which took place at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2011 this past weekend on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, was marked by the design award for Concept Cars and Prototypes. The conceptual model, which was created to celebrate the Aston Martin and Zagato partnership in the 50th anniversary year of the famous DB4GT Zagato, won the approval of the visitors to the Concorso D’Eleganza event. The competition in the Concept Cars and Prototypes category included BMW’s new 328 Homage Roadster, the Ferrari Superamerica 45, Audi Quattro, Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake, Infiniti Etherea, Italdesign VW GO!, Rinspeed Bamboo, Renault DeZir and the Scuderia P4/5.
The concept model’s next appearance will be on the tarmac at the Nürburgring 24 hour race in June where Aston Martin CEO, Dr. Ulrich Bez will lead a team of drivers that will compete in two specially developed examples of the V12 Zagato. A production version of the car is also in the cards.
“Based on the reactions of our customers to this race car, we hope to offer a road-homologated V12 Zagato in a small, limited number as soon as possible,” said Dr. Ulrich Bez.
The other winners of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2011 were a 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, which was awarded the Trofeo BMW Group, and with it “best of show” honors, while the Coppa d’Oro prize decided by public referendum went to an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS from 1942. For the first time ever, the organizers also gave an award for the best motorcycle that went to an American Pierce Four from 1910.

Based on the V12 Zagato concept, which recently debuted at the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza, the racing variant features a ventilated hood, an aggressive rear diffuser and a massive rear wing.
Performance specifications haven't been announced, but the standard model has a 6.0-liter V12 engine that develops 510 hp (380 kW / 517 PS) and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque.
Following its debut this weekend, and a second race to qualify, the V12 Zagato will be entered into the 24-hours of Nürburgring on June 25th.

Legendary race starts this weekend
Aston Martin has announced plans to enter two V12 Zagato prototypes in this weekend's 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
The red car, named Zag, will be driven by Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin Nürburgring Test Center Director Wolfgang Schuhbauer and automotive journalists Horst von Saurma and Matthew Marsh.
The green car, dubbed Zig, will be piloted by One-77 Chief Engineer Chris Porritt, experienced sports car driver Oliver Mathai, automotive journalist Richard Meaden and experienced amateur racer Peter Cate.
Besides the two prototypes, Aston Martin has also entered a V8 Vantage GT4 which will be driven by Darren Turner, journalist Shinichi Katsura, Australian racer Rob Thomson and seasoned Nürburgring veteran Jurgen Stumpf.
According to David King, Aston Martin's Head of Motorsport, "Our entries this year extend our Nürburgring racing philosophy. For five years now we have signed-off our new products by entering a car which is as close to the road car as possible and subjecting it to the toughest 24 hour test on what best simulates the extremities of public roads. This year we go a step further by testing a car at prototype stage."

The best Aston Martin V8 Vantage yet is the new Vantage S, driven here in Coupe and Roadster form
What is it?
The Aston Martin Vantage S, a sharper, more powerful V8 Vantage with styling tweaks inspired by the V12 Vantage supercar. It costs £102,500 as a coupe, £110,700 as a roadster.
Technical highlights?
The 4.7-litre V8 engine has its maximum outputs boosted by 10bhp and 15lb ft, rising to 430bhp and 361lb ft. There’s a new gearbox, too, a Prodrive-developed single-clutch automated manual with seven speeds. It’s called Sportshift 2, and is air- rather than oil-cooled, unlike its predecessor, and is said to be 24kg lighter and boast 20 per cent faster shift times. There’s a quicker steering rack and beefier brakes compared to a regular V8 Vantage, too.
What’s it like to drive?
Its wieldy, short-wheelbase body and light, reactive steering have an instant rightness to them while the ride is reasonably firm, but never intrusive. The Vantage S can play the part of both cosseting cruiser and sharp sports car.
The front end (near-full of V8 engine) still feels a touch heavy should you pile hastily into corners. But enter a bit slower and you’ve more opportunity to utilise its front-engine/rear-drive balance, enjoying a lovely V8 wail on the way out of the turn. It sounds utterly fantastic: there’s a subtle burble on part throttle or at low revs, but press the Sport button and go for it and you’re treated to a sonorous, racecar-like sound that can’t fail to make a keen driver smile.
The only real let-down is the gearbox, a ponderous delay between the flick of a steering wheel-mounted paddle and an upchange. In the days of DSG and fancy twin-clutch transmissions it’s disappoining to drive a car with such a stagger between gears, a slight easing of the throttle needed to smooth off a trip through the ratios. Changes on the limiter during harder driving are much snappier, though.
How does it compare?
A hundred grand buys a lot of car these days. A £100K slice of Porsche 911 or Audi R8 would be more dynamically adept but (to this tester’s eyes) nowhere near as good looking as the Aston. £97,000 now buys you a 542bhp Jaguar XKR-S with similarly emotive looks and soundtrack.
Anything else I need to know?
While subtle styling tweaks mean it may look much like every other V8 Vantage sold in the last six years, the car has developed a lot since launch. This is the best example yet.
