Clube Aston Martin

With rear mid-engine RWD layout

WCF reader Samir Sadikhov has sent us several photos of an Aston Martin DBC Concept, his vision of a rear mid-engine RWD coming from Gaydon.
If the name Samir Sadikhov seems familiar, that's because he took second place in the Ferrari World Design Contest in 2011 with his Xezri Concept. You also might remember Samir from his Cadillac C-Ville envisioned as a more luxurious XTS.

His latest project is of a "thoroughly modern Aston Martin" with regular AM styling which could be easily carried over to a production version. Typical Aston Martin design cues include the front grille's shape and side strakes wrapped around in a more modern package to make the car "look like a muscular athlete wearing a tailor-made suit."
Samir says his objective was "to ensure that the car's design was pure, clean and modern, while at the same time you should be able to put your hand over the front nose badge and still recognize the car as an Aston Martin."

História: Aston Martin DB

AMDB1_zpsdbab940d.jpg

The world's most famous car as a secret British agent James Bond, but its history began much earlier
Of course, it's Aston Martin DB, one of the most famous British automobile car industry which, to this day, he managed to keep alive this very famous gran turismo car.
When the Aston Martin was founded back in 1913. years (although not all vehicles sold by 1921 when available). by Lionel Martin and Robert Bumforda, the goal was the production of elegant sports car in limited numbers that will attract attention wherever they appear.
In the prewar period, it is mostly related to sports car, but the company gets into financial crisis after the Second World War and the Aston Martin changing hands in 1947. when David Brown arrived at the head. Brown dOmah like brand new line of vehicles that have elegance and sportsmanship, and to bear his name. However, despite the legendary names, Brown concentrated more on another division of the company, Lagonda, which was also purchased in 1947. year. Lagonda was also a legendary company that has, in the 1930s, celebrated the V12 models and Brown is preparing a brand new sedan, with the 2.6L engine, for in 1948. year.
Md7GQnj.jpg

Late 1940s Brown managed to stabilize the company and the merger of Aston Martin Lagonda in a factory and the two companies are beginning to share the platform and mechanics. As the best indicator of these sentences is a DB2 model that has begun to lower success before it was presented to the audience. The 1949 Le Mans 24 Hour race, Aston Martin DB2 has prepared three prototypes of which two had known I4 engine from DB1 to third while a 2.6L I6 engine of the Lagonda. Although they have not achieved good results, but the next week, the Spa 24-hour race with DB2 I6 engine finished as third. The official presentation of the production car followed the Auto Show in New York in 1950. years where the audience saw a modified DB1. Two of the cars are quite resembled the profile, mechanical changes were large, and DB2 is driven by mentioning Lagondino 2.6L I6 engine that developed 105 hp in the basic version and 125 hp in the sports version of the Vantage. Thanks to the aluminum chassis, DB2 had a solid performance for its time (acceleration to 100 km / h in 11.2 seconds, top speed 187 km / h), and sales were very satisfactory.
AMDB4_zps9876ebec.jpg

Until in 1954. The audience has delivered 409 DB2 from which only 49 copies of a convertible. Year in 1953. Aston Martin is a modified version of the DB2 / 4 mark. For the first time, DB was available with four seats, although other vehicle dimensions are identical, and the Aston Martin had to reduce the dimensions of the tank and room to spare. For an extra cost, the customer is able to contact companies such as HJ Mulliner and Sons of Birmingham, who in the past worked with Rolls Royce, and receive a special rear seat are oslobođala more space. The customer is still receiving option coupes and convertibles, but this car attracted the most attention as a coupe with a new windshield and roof. Under the hood, the standard engine was Lagondino with 125 hp that is promising to accelerate to 100 km / h in 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 191 km / h. A little later, Aston Martin and a modern 2.9L engine with 140 hp that was the first DB with a top speed of over 200 km / h and sales exploded.
AMDB5_zpsb7fbdacf.jpg

For five years Aston Martin production is delivered to the buyer 764 DB2 / 4, and some of them are specifically modified by the famous Italian house like Bertone and Carrozzeria Touring. The car market has changed greatly during the 1950s in which the main question the American-led. For most European companies are the main market was still North America whose customers are accustomed to a completely new design every year. Realizing that the DB2 / 4 time was already in its fifth year of production without major changes, the Aston Martin is refurbishing in 1957. under the DB Mark III label. Much like predecessors, this car was faster, safer and more beautiful. For design inspiration from the British carmaker has used DB3S racing car that was at the end of the 1950s, was a terror on the track. For the first time DB could be obtained with the automatic transmission and the engine power increased to 162 hp, and later to 195 HP. Most copies came as a 2 +2 or a convertible, but a small number (84) were ordered as a coupe.
AMDB6_zpsc6df8ab6.jpg

Starting price of $ 7.450 began to enter the territory of a Ferrari, and has played a major role in sales. DB Mark III has survived on the market only three years, with 551 vehicles produced. The first all-new DB presented to the audience in 1958. years and to this day is one of the most beautiful cars in the history of Aston Martin. David Brown was like a brand new car on which the engineer John Wyer worked three years. Although the DB4 was shorter than its predecessor, was also expanding and thus opened the door to the back seat - something that the Aston Martin was heavily criticized in the past. To design makes sure Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, which the audience received with enthusiasm at the London Motor Show in 1958.year. This Italian company has done a car made of aluminum, which is given a weight of only 1,400 kg. Under the hood there was a brand new 3.7L I6 engine with 240 hp, which gave the car to accelerate to 100 km / h in just 9.3 seconds and a top speed of up to 224 km / h. For sale is a very satisfactory start. During in 1959. The Aston Martin to the line adds DB4 convertible, while Zagato Italian specialist presents its version with 302 hp and a top speed of up to 246 km / h.
AMDB7_zpsf8cd3249.jpg

This car had a very impressive racing history to win the 1959 Le Mans 24 hour race.DB4 up to that point was the most successful Aston Martin ever produced with 1,210 copies sold in six years, while adding another 100 Zagato Next in line was the DB5 which, although it survived in sales just two years and produced in 1,021 copies, now certainly the most famous Aston Martin has ever produced. DB5 is shared with most of the mechanics DB4 engine except where there was a new 4.0L engine with 285 hp in the base version and 325 hp in the sports version of the Vantage. On the design side of the car is not revolutionized, but is enhanced by so many measures that buyers think that a new car is concerned. Although mostly DB5 coupe and convertible, a British specialist Harold Radford was produced and a caravan. This car was made in 1965. Today it is the rarest DB has ever produced. Despite all the praise, the DB5 had some criticism.
AMDB8_zps5aa404fa.jpg

First of all, the weight of the car has increased on a large 1,485 kg, and customers are starting to bother you car with an $ 8,000 price tag does not have air conditioning or power steering. As we mentioned earlier, the DB5 is now certainly the most famous Aston Martin mostly due to small screen. Specifically, in 1964. in theaters coming James Bond movie "Goldfinger," which is now considered one of the best films about the British secret agent, and the hero of the film is driven DB5. This car was later found, and several James Bond movies and to this day it is worth a small fortune. Replacement DB5 DB6 which was not significantly different, but it was more aerodynamic and able to reach a top speed of 250 km / h. Year in 1967. Aston Martin DBS is the audience, the first completely new car from the company in 18 years. Development of the car began in 1966. , again by order of David Brown, but from the start slow progress.
AMDB9_zpsce148597.jpg

One of the reasons was bankrupt company Carrozzeria Touring, which Aston Martin design partners lost, and the economic crisis in Europe has played a big role for which many customers have turned to smaller cars. New designer, young William Towns, was given the task of designing not only new Aston Martin Lagonda sedan, but also a sedan. Towns designed the two cars is very similar, and in addition to a completely new design, the DBS was less in November as Aston Martin customers want to believe. The engine is, thus, taken over the DB6, and it is still a 4.0L I6 engine with 283 HP. Despite the greater weight of 200 kg, performance was impressive, with acceleration to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 240 km / h. For in 1969.year in the Aston Martin line adds the first V8 engine - 5.3L with 315 HP. Thanks to this, the engine accelerates to 100 km / h amounted to 5.9 seconds while the top speed was 257 km / h. And DBS gained fame on the small screen thanks to the latest James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", and had a brief role in "Diamonds Are Forever".
AMDB10_zps334a467b.jpg

While DBS V8 survived till in 1989. The rest of the DBS line was officially shut down in 1972. year. That year, David Brown sold Aston Martin and Lagonda Company Development Company, Ltd., which marked the end of these cars until 1994. year. That year the audience is introduced modern DB7, which was the basic and cheapest model of the company. The premiere of this car was at the Geneva Motor Show in 1992. year, while sales start later. At the start only engine available as an option is a 3.2L I6 with 335 hp while the later added to the line and 6.0L V12 engine with 420 horsepower. Thanks to him, the DB7 was able to accelerate to 100 km / h in just 4.9 seconds and deliver a top speed of 300 km / h. Unlike its predecessor, the DB7 was designed by British designer and enjoyed great popularity (over 11 years has sold over 7,000 copies). Latest DB DB9 car carrying the label and went on sale 2004thyear. For the first time in the history of DB is only available with a V12 engine, and the famous 6.0L, which develops 469 hp. This is the fastest DB ever produced with acceleration to 100 km / h in just 4.6 seconds. There are several reasons why Aston Martin has decided to bypass the DB8 tag.
AMDB11_zps706ca1fb.jpg

Some argue that the British carmaker feared that customers would think that the number eight is the number of cylinders while there are those who say that the DB9 as much of a revolution that Aston Martin wanted to show it with new and more and compared to its predecessor. Regardless of the reason, whether, DB9 now enjoying great success and good results have been achieved in the field of sports with victories in the American Le Mans, Le Mans and FIA GT Championships. After many years of financial difficulties, Aston Martin has finally recovered under today represents an ideal sports car manufacturer.
Because of the small number of production DB is today one of the most expensive classics, and rates exceeding 100,000 dollars / euros. One of the most valuable specimens in 1965 DB5 used in the James Bond films, which, 2010th year, sold a record 2.6 million pounds.

Aston Martin said to target doubling sales by 2016 under new CEO - Autonews

Aston Martin aims to double annual vehicle sales to 7,000 by 2016 with new models and an expansion of its dealer network outside Europe. The carmaker also plans to appoint a new CEO in the next three months, according to a person with direct knowledge of the plans, who asked not to be identified as the matter is private.

Current CEO Ulrich Bez, who has led the carmaker since 2000, will probably become a non-executive chairman. Aston Martin already has several candidates for the CEO post, the person said. A company representative declined to comment.

The person said the carmaker may also add an SUV to its lineup to broaden its appeal.
Aston Martin is the only global luxury-auto producer that doesn't belong to a larger manufacturing group.

After London-based investment firm Investindustrial purchased a 37.5 percent stake last year, the carmaker laid out plans in January to spend 500 million pounds ($785 million) on expansion in the next four years to challenge rival luxury brands Bentley, Ferrari and Maserati.

Investindustrial Chairman Andrea Bonomi has said he wants to expand Aston's lineup while establishing partnerships to limit the cost of developing models.
The carmaker signed a deal in July to obtain engines from the AMG high-performance division of Daimler. The German carmaker will receive a 5 percent stake in Aston over time, depending on the progress of their technical partnership.

7,000 sales goal

Aston Martin has a target of boosting annual sales to about 7,000 vehicles in 2016 from about 3,400 cars in 2012, with growth propelled by catering to growing demand in Asia, North and South America, said the person.

The carmaker may then develop, as a second part of its expansion plan, an SUV designed to attract wealthy drivers, the person said, adding that Investindustrial may boost its holding in the carmaker in the coming years with a capital increase needed to invest in new projects, such as the SUV.

"Aston Martin, which now has such a considerable partner as Daimler, has a lot of cachet related to James Bond movies which hasn't been fully exploited, so it could find its space in the growing luxury SUV market," said Ian Fletcher, an analyst at IHS Automotive in London.

IHS estimates Aston may double annual sales to 7,530 cars in 2017, helped by new V-8 engine versions of the Vantage and DB9 models. The prediction excludes an SUV.

Supercar SUVs

Fiat's Maserati and VW's Bentley are among supercar makers developing SUVs to expand in the United States and emerging markets such as China and Russia, where there's a growing class of wealthy consumers. Longer driving distances and larger areas of undeveloped land also make SUVs popular in all three countries.
Investindustrial, which also sold Italian motorcycle maker Ducati to Audi in mid-2012, completed the 190 million euro purchase of the Aston stake in May, and gained management control of the carmaker, which is celebrating its centennial this year.

Bonomi pledged in January to remain an Aston Martin shareholder for at least 10 years. Aston Martin's other shareholders are Kuwaiti companies Investment Dar and Adeem Investment Co., which bought the carmaker in 2007 from Ford Motor Co.
