Here's a look at the worldwide hardware data for the month of October, which contains the 4 weeks from October 1st-28th and applies a scaling factor to get 31 days' worth of data:
(...)
  • Wii broke 1 million for the month - and the PSP nearly did as well, thanks to the new model.
  • DS is selling at a rate of 22 million a year, *before* accounting for a holiday boost.
  • 360 was just 20% behind the Wii this month, and was ahead again in North America.
  • PS3 was less than half of the Wii total and just 63% of the 360 total, despite its price cut and new model.
  • Portable systems made a killing in Japan, three times the highest-selling console.
  • PSP sales were competitive to the DS in Japan but less than half everywhere else.
  • PS2 continues to sell well in PAL but is trailing off everywhere else.
  • Wii and DS are really dominating the UK this month.
(...)
  • 360 and PSP more than doubled in the past year.
  • DS shows a solid 33% growth despite the large drop in Japan (which had Pokemon hit around this time last year).
  • PS2 sales were down 20% from last year, though sales in PAL markets actually increased a bit.
  • PS3 sales this month are about 46% higher than 360 sales last year, so even though it is losing ground on the 360 right now it is still at least selling faster than the 360 did at the same point in its life cycle.
