Help - Mac, instalar programas

Uma amiga minha tem um mac há pouco tempo e queria instalar o messenger mais recente
visto que com o actual não é possível conectar-se.

Acontece que já saquei umas quantas versões que têm extensão .dmg e .exe mas não
consigo instalar nada.

Expliquem aqui ao leigo como fazer isso.
