Exclusive… Ken drives in the Aston Martin CC100 Speedster

IT IS the most exclusive Aston Martin ever – even James Bond has yet to take it for a spin.
And 007 will be shaken and stirred to find out I’ve beaten him to it and had an exclusive drive of the Aston Martin CC100 Speedster.
It has been built to celebrate the firm’s centenary and the astonishing CC100 looks every inch a car Bond should drive in a movie.
Insiders say that many of the design cues will be seen in the next generation of Astons.

One of a kind… 007 would approve of the centenary motor

As it rolled off a covered car transporter at a secret UK test track into the sunlight, the CC100 was revealed to be a thing of rare beauty — even by the standards of Aston Martin.

It’s arguably the most exotic Aston ever, a racing car for the road inspired by the firm’s great racing cars of the late Fifties.
There is no windscreen, giant cutaways in both doors and a power boatstyle wrap-around exposed roof that separates the driver from the passenger.
At the rear there are two large twin air coolers that pop up like submarine periscopes in front of the boot and give the car some real attitude.

Aston Martin originally intended to build only one CC100, which it sold to a Middle East customer for £500,000.
But it was persuaded by another longtime Aston Martin owner to build a second — and I’m so glad it did, because this week I got to take the car for its final shakedown before it was handed over.

Sex on wheels… The motor is extra special
It is sex on wheels, an orgasmic mix of style and power.
It also has extraordinary performance. The 6litre V12 engine powers the car from 0-60mph in around 3.5secs and with a top speed of 200mph.
But it feels even quicker as you are exposed to the elements without a windscreen and roof and the gloriously throaty roar of the V12 engine only serves to heighten the driving drama.

Then when you throw in racing-car levels of grip and handling to the equation you end up with an explosive cocktail of supercar sensations.
All of this is wrapped up in a oneoff open cabin designed by Aston’s aptly named Q personalisation division.

The firm’s design team create bespoke tailor-made interiors.

It is a brilliant mix of modern carbon fibre with rich, warm tan leather sports seats and leather trim over the CC100′s centre console, along with leather pull straps on the doors that add a retro touch.

Like the rest of the car, the interior is extra special — and a reminder of just why Aston Martin is one of the world’s most desirable brands.

Aston Martin expects to be profitable after 2016 - Autonews

MILLBROOK, England (Reuters) -- Loss-making Aston Martin expects to make a significant return to profitability after 2016.The company said it would start to see the benefits of a five-year 500 million pound ($843.57 million) investment program, having struggled to grow since the economic downturn.

"Once we finish the investment phase, we are very, very confident that it's going to take us to a very sustainable profitability," Chief Financial Officer Hanno Kirner said in an interview on Monday. "We expect to return to significant profitability in the periods after 2016."

Aston Martin said in April it was investing in new electrical and electronic technology alongside a 2013 strategic partnership with Daimler through which the company benefits from shared engine development.

The company has teamed up with Daimler's high-performance Mercedes-AMG division to develop a new generation of bespoke V8 engines.
That move aimed to help it better compete with the likes of Volkswagen's Bentley and Porsche units, as well as Jaguar Land Rover, which has achieved strong sales growth, especially in China, since 2008.

Aston Martin, owned by Kuwaiti and Italian private equity groups, has had a turbulent 12 months after it scrapped its Cygnet minicar in October, which was an attempt to tap into the popularity of city cars.

Aston Martin SUV
It has also suffered from the lack of SUV model - excluding it from another market that has defied Europe's recession.

Aston Martin reiterated its focus was still on sports cars, but product chief Ian Minards said he remained "open-minded" to a possible sports utility vehicle.
The company posted an adjusted pretax loss of 24.6 million pounds in 2012, down from a 21.2 million pound loss a year earlier.

Aston Martin has previously said retail volumes fell to 3,800 units in 2012, from 4,200 in 2011, but that it is aiming to double sales by 2016, helped by the new V8-engine versions of the Vantage and DB9 models.

But the firm suffered a setback in February when it was forced to recall 17,590 cars after discovering a Chinese supplier was using counterfeit plastic material in its production of pedals.

Aston Martin, which said the recall cost it 1.5 million pounds, saw a barrage of negative media coverage in China where the state media slammed what it called the stereotyping of a low-quality 'Made in China' manufacturing.

Kirner said the firm was moving on and played down the impact. "With a super-luxury brand there was a lot of excitement generated, but materially it is not a big recall for us."

Aston Martin contratará a 250 personas e invertirá 25 millones
