Alfa Romeo

Quando há mais dinheiro que gosto

Sim, é um 8C "General Lee"

Yup. Someone has apparently taken it upon themselves to slather the slinkiest of Alfa Romeo models with the bright orange paint and stars and bars of the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard. Why? Because if you have enough cash to park an 8C Competizione in your expansive garage, you can paint it in whatever livery you damn well please. Details are scarce, but our source says the coupe is real, and it rocks the appropriate "01" numbering on each door. We're hoping there's a horn capable of whistling Dixie under the hood as well, and we'll award bonus points if the doors are welded shut and there's a cage inside.

We'd love to know who ordered up this particular color combination. Our source, John S., says this photo was clicked near Balocco in Northern Italy (presumably adjacent to Alfa's test track facility there), but for now, we'll just content ourselves by wondering how you say "Daisy Duke" in Italian.

Está de facto com muito mau gosto, principalmente associar um produto tão italiano com...algo tão parolo como o Sul dos EUA.

Os 8C venderam-se em 4 cores...e chega.

PS - 4 cores de base.

Geneva-bound Alfa Romeo Disco Volante 2012 by Touring

This teaser image previews the Disco Volante 2012, which will be fully revealed by Touring Superleggera at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Based on the 8C Competizione’s mechanicals, the car will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1952 Alfa Romeo of the same name.

The original car inherited the Disco Volante name – which is Italian for ‘Flying Saucer’ – due to its space-age shape, which made it one of the most aerodynamic cars ever when launched in 1952. Now, a Milan-based coachbuilder has reimagined the legendary curves (which many believe inspired those of the Jaguar E-type) with a modern twist.

Fear not; Touring Superleggera (the company with which Alfa Romeo collaborated on the design of the original) hasn’t taken the meaning of the car’s name too literally – the sketch above simply hints at the basic forms of the car. The Geneva show car will actually be based on the space-frame underpinnings of an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.

The 4.7-litre V8 from the 8C is also retained, while the chassis is dressed in hand-beaten aluminium panels with carbonfibre elements. At last year’s Geneva show, the company performed a similar exercise by creating the Gumpert Tornante from the mechanical package of the madcap Apollo.

The car on display in Geneva will be a static model, but Touring Superleggera has confirmed that production of a limited number of coachbuilt examples has already been given the green light.

Alfa 4C to spearhead US relaunch

Alfa Romeo’s US relaunch will finally take place at the Detroit motor show in 2014. The production version of the mid-engined 4C sports car will make its debut at the same show.

The 4C will head a range that is set to grow over the next two years to include the five-door Mito, new Spider, Giulia saloon and estate (to replace the 159 range), a new compact SUV and the new 6C flagship saloon.

The first of the new Alfas is not due to be seen until the second half of next year, Autocar sources have revealed. So the company will have to make do with the current Mito and Giulietta for at least 18 months as its sole two new cars available in showrooms.

Once sales are under way in North America, Alfa will turn its attentions to launching in the Chinese market. It had a stand at the Guangzhou motor show late last year and was pleased with the response its models received.

Autocar has also learned from Fiat Group sources that the 4C will only be offered with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. There will be no manual option.

However, the 4C’s twin-clutch ’box won’t be exactly the same Fiat Powertrain-developed dry-clutch auto used in the Giulietta TCT because it can’t be installed in a mid-engined car in its present state. Instead, the 4C is likely to get a version of this transmission adapted for mid-engined installation.

Sources have confirmed that the 4C will be powered by a new 230bhp version of Alfa’s 1750 turbo petrol engine. In its present 197bhp state, this engine has a torque output of 236lb ft.

This is well inside the new auto’s maximum torque tolerance of 258lb ft, which means the 1750 engine is also in line for a torque increase for the 4C.
