Posicionado acima do Volkswagen Tiguan, o Audi Q5 vai recorrer à plataforma estreada no coupé A5 e encontrar como adversários o BMW X3 e o futuro Mercedes GLK. É esperada uma ampla gama de motorizações, com destaque para os motores FSi a gasolina e os mais recentes TDi com tecnologia common-rail, de 143 e 170 cavalos.

Audi Q5 to Launch at Los Angeles Show

Sources at Audi have been telling news website Automotive News that the German firm will premiere their Q5 SUV, spied undergoing testing earlier this year, at November's Los Angeles Auto Show, joining 13 other world debut vehicles at the event.

The Q5 follows in the footsteps of its larger Q7 sibling, which launched in March of this year. The new SUV, based on the new A4 platform, will be fast-tracked to the US with American sales starting from early next year, while European customers will be able to order from next summer.

Audi will complement the car's Quattro all-wheel-drive system by offering a full range of engines in the new SUV, offering various four and six-cylinder FSI engines as well as Audi's new range of high-efficiency diesel units with the 2.0-litre four-pot and 3.0-litre V6 TDIs the most likely to be featured. The 4.2-litre V8 unit may very well make it to an S-line version. Transmission choices are between the six-speed manual or new seven-speed DSG gearbox.

The Q5 is expected to be equipped with adjustable air suspension and hill-descent control, although unlike its big brother the Q7, will seat only five.

The car will be built at Audi's Ingolstadt site after some 300 million euros of development costs, rivalling the likes of Mercedes-Benz's GLK and BMW's X3. Stay tuned for our coverage of the LA Show, which runs from 16th to 25th November. (Press Days being two days prior to public opening.)

Testing in Austria

The Q5 will be Audi’s answer to the X3 from BMW and Mercedes’ upcoming GLK, and will be built at the Ingolstadt factory in Germany. It’s seen here with very little disguising while undergoing cooling and brake tests in the Austrian Alps. Audi has invested 300 million Euros for the production that will keep 1700 employees busy. Based on the same new MLP (Modular Long Platform) inner structure as the A5 and upcoming A4, Audi will start the production of the Q5 in 2008.

The platform’s layout will make it possible for Audi to offer a full range of engines, meaning the brand’s various FSI-equipped four and six-cylinder engines, plus Audi's new high-efficiency diesel engines will be offered. Most likely the 2.0-litre TDI and the 3.0 litre V6 TDI. It’s even possible that the 4.2 litre V8 will find its way under the hood for an S-line version.

All Q5 will have an updated version of the Quattro all-wheel-drive system with a six-speed manual or the new seven-speed DSG gearbox. Expect the Q5 to come equipped with hill-descent control and an adjustable air suspension. Unlike the Q7, the Q5 will do without the third row of seats and remain a five-seater.

as marcas estao a inovar pouco em termos de design... mas a audi esta a exagerar, aquela grelha ja enjoa um pouco. devem pensar que com a introduçao de leds a frente e na traseira cromados a força toda[8b] que o carro fica uma maravilha.

so espero que o glk seja pa breve e o x3 novo tambem.
