Capacity Classes: Eight in total: Above 4-litre; 3-litre to 4-litre; 2.5-litre to 3-litre; 2-litre to 2.5-litre; 1.8-litre to 2-litre; 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre; 1-litre to 1.4-litre; and Sub 1-litre. To qualify for inclusion in these Awards classes, an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 9 May 2007.
Best Fuel Economy: To qualify for inclusion in this Awards category, an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 9 May 2007, and have been designed with fuel economy as a priority (i.e. diesels, hybrids, etc).
Best Performance Engine: To qualify for inclusion in this Awards category, an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 9 May 2007, and either have been designed specifically for a performance-orientated car or be installed in a vehicle, the aim of which is sporting fun.
Best New Engine 2007: To qualify for inclusion in this Awards category, an engine must have been launched after 10 May 2006 and be housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 9 May 2007.
International Engine of the Year 2007: The winners of the eight engine capacity classes are shortlisted for the International Engine of the Year 2007 crown.
