Felizmente a Fiat saiu a tempo

Proton Brand
The launch of our Research and Development facilities has contributed a most critical activity, innovation in design and creative engineering methods. Consumers can now expect Proton to deliver more unique, stylish and attractively priced cars. The new Proton branding system is a critical milestone in our continued commitment to realize our vision. Building a powerful brand globally requires us to consistently manage all points of contact with our many audiences and ensure that they are in harmony with our guiding vision.

Power and control

The purchase of Lotus Cars in 1997 was more than just a simple balance sheet acquisition. As a world leader in automotive engineering, Lotus would add genuine quality and expertise to all new Proton products.

The first signs of the partnership came in 1999 when Proton launched the Satria GTi. Lotus took the standard Satria 3-door hatchback and added a little Hethel magic. The result was a superb handling ‘hot-hatch’, capable of humbling some of the more well known brands. Even well respected car magazine, evo, was keen to award the car 4-stars, proclaiming that the Proton was a ‘really satisfying drive’.

Keen to learn from the GTi experience, Proton was quick to use Lotus in the development of all subsequent car launches. In 2001, the Impian was the first Proton to be built on an in-house platform and the saloon car was graced with ride and handling not normally found on 4-door saloons.

The Lotus factor isn’t confined to cars either. The Jumbuck is the first commercial vehicle in the world to be developed with the help of Lotus engineering. Certainly a different spin on the Lotus two-seater concept!

Perhaps the most significant car in Proton’s history is the GEN-2, launched in the UK in September 2004. Not only is the car totally designed and engineered by Proton and Lotus, but it is powered by a CAMPRO engine – built by Proton with the help of Lotus.

It is this complete package from which Power and Control is born.

The power behind Proton comes in the form of the newly developed CAMPRO engine, first seen in the GEN-2 1.6. The lightweight nature of the unit, coupled with a class leading power-to-weight ratio, ensures that Protons are powerful, yet economical – a definite plus point in today’s market. The future promises greater variety, more power and different variations – ensuring Proton delivers power and control for many years to come.

Steeped in history, with a heritage of motorsport success, Lotus is perhaps best known for its ride and handling expertise. With the use of lightweight materials and superior expertise in suspension and steering, Lotus cars have always given the driver feedback, predictable handling and a genuine sense of excitement. It is this which brings control to every new Proton sold today.
