Peugeot has confirmed that its 207 GT, featuring the new BMW-developed 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, will go on sale in November. It'll cost from £14,345, and come in three-door form only.
The 1.6-litre engine, developed at BMW's Hams Hall facility, has direct fuel injection and a turbocharger; it produces 150bhp at 5800rpm and 180 lb ft of torque at 1400rpm. Equipment for the GT will include six airbags, ABS, ESP, tyre pressure monitoring, two ISOFIX child seat mounting points, electric windows, an alarm, deadlocks, automatic headlamps and wipers, dual-zone climate control, a glass roof panel, 17-inch alloy wheels, height-adjustable front seats and part-leather upholstery.
The 207 GT is Peugeot's first turbocharged supermini since the 205 T16. It's not going to be the quickest 207 in the range, however; a more powerful model yet, probably developing around 190bhp, will go on sale next year. It's not yet clear whether this will take the new "RC" badge, as used on recent sporty Peugeot concepts, or the familiar "GTi" name.
